EUNICE (European University for Customised Education)

EUNICE is a new, creative European University that aims to bring about a paradigm shift from traditional to customised education through inter-university “blended” mobility. Specifically, the development of EUNICE aims at the construction of a new university consortium which will be:

- Multicentric: through the bottom-up synergy of seven geographically balanced higher education institutions, EUNICE will offer world-class, competitive, and customised education that meets the needs of society, the labour market and the industrial sector.

- Intercultural: EUNICE will strengthen European identity and promote common European values through interculturalism and multilingualism.

- Open: EUNICE will encourage a European dimension to education while strengthening a non-discriminatory and equal society, and the good practices of partner universities, where diversity is a tool for inclusive education and training through presence (access to education) and participation (quality of
the learning experience).

- Person-centred: EUNICE will provide a framework with inclusive educational paths where students and educators customise the study program together to efficiently shape a cohesive European society.

7 Pioneers:
- Poznan University of Technology (Poland)
- Brandenburg University of Technology
Cottbus-Senftenberg (Germany)
- University of Cantabria (Spain)
- University of Catania (Italy)
- University of Mons (Belgium)
- Université Polytechnique Hauts-de-France
(France)
- University of Vaasa (Finland)

- Virtual Interactive Social European University: working towards a new model of widely accessible mobility, and key Bologna commitments, including automatic mutual recognition of credits and diplomas to meet high quality standards in the European Higher Education Area. Problem-based learning and curricular flexibility will endow students with better opportunities on the global market.

- Shaping European Citizens: a comprehensive approach to language, teaching and learning while promoting citizenship and shared values of freedom, tolerance and non-discrimination through education. Students will become aware and proud of their identity as Europeans and respectful of European cultural heritage and diversity, while maintaining a global perspective.

- Open Virtual System for Education, Research and Innovation - an open, virtual infrastructure platform for the development of education, research and innovation, dedicated to current and future needs of the environment and society.

- Training, Research & Development for Industryoriented problems: creating education and innovative scientific research and technological solutions to build a competitive knowledge-based economy to tackle current and future societal challenges.

EUNICE will exploit synergies between research and education among European partner universities by:

-Developing modern and innovative pedagogical methods, and providing enhanced student services, in terms of enrolment, recognition, student counselling and guidance aimed at boosting the employability of all students.

- Implementing a multi-centred common strategic vision of first-class, inclusive and competitive European higher education where research will be embedded as one of the main ways to train students, in line with the dynamics of the “Humboldt model”.

- Promoting cross-fertilization, an essential element of all development strategies, between different groups (students and researchers), between scientific specialties (interdisciplinary research) and between societal actors (primary, secondary and high schools, private companies and social enterprises).

Sharing EUNICE courses, modules and degree programmes, which are either co-created or shared online or virtually, to address societal educational needs, with emphasis on education’s relevance to the world of work in order to improve employability.

Establishing an intercultural and integrated approach leading not only to the development of students’ technical skills, but also to the fostering of their awareness of European culture and identity and of their critical thinking through a customised educational system
